I read on here somewhere that the A330 cannot be steered (Via nose wheel) from the cockpit
On the left hand side of the captain on the wall (so to say) there is a large handle simular to a window winder of a car
I was under the impression that was what it was a steering device fro the nose wheel

Yes you can steer the A330 from the flight deck using the nose wheel tiller. The tiller does look similar to the window winder in a car. There are two tillers, one for use by the Captain, and the other for the First Officer. Depending on the aircraft, the tiller controls the nose wheel steering angle by about 70 deg, although that angle decreases as the speed of the aircraft increases.

Other than the tiller, the nose wheel steering angle can be changed (by a much smaller angle) using the rudder pedals.
