Equation of Continuity
"The mass of a fluid cannot be created or destroyed, and when considering the flow of a given mass of air through varying sized openings, air mass flow is constant."
This results in the following formula:
AVρ = constant
A is the cross-sectional area, V is the flow velocity, and ρ is air density.
Application
The equation of continuity shows that air passing through a venturi will increase in velocity when passing through a constriction (an area of reduced cross-section).
