Brake and Steering Control Unit
Also from: BSCU
The 1 BSCU has 2 independent channels, 1 is active at a time and the other in standby. It translates the steering handwheels, rudder pedals, and AP inputs into a nose wheel steering angle. The AP commands are used during a CAT 3 autoland to maintain runway centreline. Pilots can disconnect rudder pedal orders to the BSCU through a pb on each steering handwheel.
The BSCU also controls normal and alternate braking, autobrake, and antiskid.
The channels switch after a down gear selection or the active channel fails. It also switches channels when the A/SKID & N/W STRG switch is toggled to off then back on.
