Wing Anti-Ice System
Thermal ice protection is provided for slats 2, 3, and 4 (slats outboard of the engines). A wing anti-ice valve modulates skin temperature as calculated by the AMS controller in SPDA 2 for anti-ice operation. The TDS is used to configure anti-ice for takeoff, and with REF A/I set to ALL, the wing anti-ice valves open with a wheel speed >40kt. If APU bleed air is used for a system test, the crossbleed valve is commanded open.
The system performs a self test at 10,000' or 10 minutes after takeoff, whichever occurs first. The test takes a maximum of 60 seconds.
EICAS messages
A-I WING 2 LEAK - an overheat is detected by the overheat detection system (ODS) or a slat temperature sensor indicates overtemperature
ENG REF A-I DISAG - the mode selector is on rather than auto, and ENG REF A/I is set to off
A-I WING VLV OPEN - also displayed during the self test
