Wing Anti-Ice

Also from: WAI

Hot air from the pneumatic system heats the 4 outboard slats of each wing, via 2 valves. With wing anti-ice selected, the EPR limit is reduced and the idle EPR increased. APU bleed air cannot be used for wing anti ice. On the ground 30s after wing anti ice is switched on, the wing anti ice valves close automatically to prevent an overheat of the slats. They open automatically at takeoff, and close automatically at touch down.

Wing anti ice is required from +10°C to -40°C SAT, in visible moisture.

Controls

The FAULT light illuminates momentarily when the ANTI ICE WING pb is pressed, while the valve is in transit.

Failures

The wing anti-ice valves close for:

  • an electrical power failure
  • an air leak

If a wing anti ice valve fails open, there is no effect in flight, although after landing the corresponding engine bleed will have to be switched off.
