CFM56

The A340 is powered by 4 CFM56-5C high bypass ratio turbofans, rated at 34,000 lbs thrust up to ISA+15°. It provides a quicker light-off than the Trent 700 due to fuel remaining in the manifold after shutdown (the Trent needs to pressurise the manifold before fuel is supplied for light-off).

Consists of 2 rotors:

• N₁ or low pressure (LP) rotor has 1 fan, 4 stage LP compressor, 5 stage LP turbine.
• N₂ or high pressure (HP) rotor has 9 stage HP compressor, 1 stage HP turbine.
