Lighting

Three types: cabin lights, flight compartment lights, and external lights. If power is lost, temporary DC power is provided for emergency exit lighting.

The external lights system consists of:

  • landing lights (3)
  • taxi lights (3) - nose gear taxi light extinguishes if nose gear is not down and locked
  • navigation lights (3 in each wing, including a standby light activated by a separate power source)
  • inspection lights
  • logo lights (2)
  • anticollision lights (4 strobes, 2 red beacons)
  • 3 emergency exit lights at overwing emergency exit

The flight compartment lighting consists of:

  • cockpit lighting (dome lights powered by DC ESS Bus 3, reading lights, chart lights)
  • instrument and control panel lighting
  • flood storm lights

The passenger compartment lighting system consists of:

  • passenger cabin lights (controlled using forward and aft attendants panels)
  • passenger warning sign system (no smoking and fasten seat belts signs automatically illuminate when the cabin altitude exceeds 14,000')
  • reading and attendant call light system
  • courtesy light system (ceiling lights are DC - powered by the hot battery bus if normal power is not available on a 5 minute cycle)
  • lavatory light system
  • galley light system
  • entrance light system

Cargo compartment lights are activated when the cargo doors are opened.

The emergency lighting system is powered by 6 ELPUs. The floor proximity emergency escape path markings are photo-luminescent.
