Passenger Oxygen System

The chemical oxygen dispensing units supply supplemental oxygen for 12 minutes. SPDA 1 controls the system via a 28V DC connection with the PSUs, when the passenger oxygen switch is in auto. It senses cabin altitude from an altimetric switch, and deploys the masks when cabin altitude exceeds 14,000'. The No Smoking and Fasten Seatbelt signs on the PSUs illuminate automatically when the masks are deployed.

Each PSU has 2 or 3 oxygen masks in an aluminum container, and have a chemical generator covered with a thermal insulation blanket.
