RAT
Also from: Ram air turbine
Provides emergency AC power for the electrical system whenever AC power sources are not powering AC buses. After a sudden loss of AC power in flight, the RAT automatically deploys.
Variable blade angle allows a variable airflow to be converted to a constant generator speed. The RAT generator produces 15kVA, 115VAC, 400Hz, 3-phase power.
The RAT requires 130kt to supply both AC and DC ESS buses - below this speed load shedding occurs.
Implications
The following remain operational.
Pilot MFD | DC ESS Bus 2 |
Copilot MCDU | DC ESS Bus 2 |
EICAS | DC ESS Bus 1 |
CCD 1 | DC ESS Bus 2 |
IESS | DC ESS Bus 2 or Batteries |
Fuel crossfeed | DC ESS Bus 3 |
EICAS messages
BATT DISCHARGING - RAT automatic deployment failed
