Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System

Also from: EGPWS

A GPWS with forward looking capability for terrain added. The terrain information is from a database, and is displayed on the ND. The A330E database includes man-made obstacles. The functions are deselected if nav accuracy is not sufficient.

Colours are based on current altitude, or altitude in 30s if descent at > 1,000 fpm.

Terrain clearance floor (TCF)

A terrain clearance floor envelope is stored in the database for each runway for which terrain exists. If the aircraft descends below this floor, a TOO LOW TERRAIN aural occurs along with a GPWS light. Relative height is calculated using the captain's baro setting, and the position is calculated using FM 1. (Most of the inputs to the EGPWC are from the #1 side.)

Runway field clearance floor (RFCF)

Available on the A330E

Available when a runway is significantly higher than the surrounding terrain.

Peak mode

Available on the A330E

Blue sea is displayed along with terrain data, whatever the aircraft altitude. Highest and lowest geographic terrain elevation displayed is also displayed.
