Engine Anti-Ice

Hot air bled from the high pressure compressor (3rd stage, HP 3) protects the engine nacelle from ice. When an engine anti-ice valve is open, the EPR limit for that engine is reduced and the idle EPR increased.

Engine anti ice is required from +10°C to -40°C SAT, in visible moisture, and on descent if icing is expected.

Controls

The FAULT light illuminates momentarily when the ANTI ICE ENG 1(2) pb is pressed, while the valve is in transit.

Failures

An engine anti-ice valve:

  • opens, for an electrical power failure
  • closes, if air is not available (the engine is not running)
