Elevators

Normally controlled by PRIM 1 and driven by green hydraulic jacks.

Servojacks

Two electrically controlled hydraulic servojacks are fitted on each elevator. They operate in 3 modes:

  • Active - jack position is electrically controlled
  • Damping - jack follows surface movement
  • Centring - jack is hydraulically maintained in neutral

Normally one jack is in active mode and the other in damping mode. Some manoeuvres cause the second jack to become active. Loss of P1, P2, S1, S2 cause the actuators to go to centering mode and put the elevators in the neutral position.
