PFD

Also from: Primary Flight Display

The PFD includes a roll index for AoB and a side slip index to indicate slip. The RA is displayed at the bottom of the attitude indicator.

If the PFD temperature exceeds a threshold, the gray background on some of the scales disappears to reduce power consumption. Further temperature increase cuts off the power to the unit.

Airspeed

The speed trend arrow represents 10s. When the FMGS is controlling airspeed, a magenta target airspeed triangle appears. This is referred to as the managed speed. If the target airspeed is selected manually, the triangle is blue, and is referred to as the selected speed.

During the takeoff roll, a blue V1 speed and a magenta V2 speed are displayed. The following speeds may be displayed.

After lift off, the FD demands a speed of V2+10.

Altitude

Heading

The compass scale at the bottom of the PFD represents aircraft heading, and a /wiki/wikis/a330/bin/greendiamond.jpg represents track. Selected heading appears as .

ILS

ILS indications are magenta. A on the compass scale represents localiser front course.

Sideslip

The sideslip target becomes the β target and turns blue when:

  • CONF 1, 2, or 3; and
  • any ENG EPR > 1.3; and
  • difference between ENG EPR > 0.25.

Vertical speed

The vertical speed indication becomes amber under the following conditions:

  • V/S > 6,000 fpm
  • V/S > 2,000 fpm during descent when 1,000' < RA < 2,500'
  • V/S > 1,200 fpm during descent when RA < 1,000'

Failures

With all 3 ADRs switched off, a backup speed and altitude scale (see also BUSS) is presented. The speed scale is based on angle of attack, and the altitude scale displays GPS altitude.
