Ignition System

Used to initiate engine combustion during start, auto-relight, and when the ignition selector knobs are in OVRD. Also performs flameout detection and auto-relight logic. Controlled by the FADEC. Consists of 2 exciters (115VAC), 2 leads, and 2 igniters for each engine. 1 igniter is energised for ground starts, and 2 for air starts, flameouts, loss of ARINC buses, a missed light-off, or for with the ignition selector knobs in OVRD (and the engine running).

FADEC deactivates the ignition system when:

  • engine shutdown
  • ignition in OFF
  • during dry motoring on the ground

Inflight the FADEC disregards the OFF position.
