Pneumatic System

Sources are engine bleed air (main source), APU bleed air, or an external source. Provides bleed air to the engine starter, anti-ice system, ECS, and for water pressurisation. Normally each engine provides bleed air to the onside manifold, which supplies the onside ECS pack and anti-ice system. The following priority is applied to multiple bleed air sources:

  1. onside engine
  2. opposite engine
  3. APU, on ground with engine low power setting

If there is a failure, the crossbleed valve allows the ECS pack and anti-ice system to be supplied from the opposite manifold.

The crossbleed valve is commanded open if:

  • one bleed manifold has pressure and there is no bleed air source on the opposite side
  • APU bleed button pushed out for main engine start
  • engine 2 start in the air
  • APU bleed off for engine 1 start in the air
  • no bleed leak unless starting an engine
