Side Stick
The side sticks become operable after first engine start, as soon as hydraulic power is available.
The side sticks are spring-loaded to neutral and receive no feedback from flight controls. Commands are processed through the flight control computers before being sent to the control surfaces. They move independently, and if each is moved at the same time, their deflections are added together. With the autopilot engaged, the side sticks lock in the neutral position. Sufficient force will cause the autopilot to disengage.
A pilot can deactivate the other stick by pressing and holding the takeover pb. If held for > 40s, the priority condition is latched. Pressing either takeover pb reactivates the stick.
