Autobrake System

Also from: Autobrake; RTO

Uses hydraulic system B pressure, and operates only when the normal brake system is functioning.

RTO

Can be armed when:

  • airplane on the ground
  • antiskid and autobrake systems operational
  • AUTO BRAKE select switch positioned to RTO
  • wheel speed <60kts
  • forward thrust levers IDLE

If the takeoff is rejected below 90kts, autobraking is not initiated and the AUTO BRAKE DISARM light does not illuminate. RTO mode is automatically disarmed when both air/ground systems indicate the air mode.

Landing

When a landing mode is selected, the system performs a self test. After landing, autobrake application begins when:

  • both thrust levers IDLE
  • main wheels spin-up

Disarming

The system may be disarmed by moving the selector swith to OFF, which does not illuminate the AUTO BRAKE DISARM light. After braking has started, the following cause the AUTO BRAKE DISARM light to illuminate:

  • moving the SPEED BRAKE lever to the down detent
  • advancing the thrust levers, except during the first 3s after touchdown
  • applying manual brakes
